Gisele Is A Smart Model

As one of the richest and important models in the world Gisele Bundchen made public her opinion about the current debate on anorexia after the death of a Brazilian fellow a month ago. "Everybody knows that the norm in fashion is thin. But excuse me, there are people born with the right genes for this profession," she said.

"I never suffered from this problem because I had a very strong family base. Parents are responsible, not the fashion industry," added the blonde while talking to O Globo newspaper on Friday. With these declarations Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex girlfriend tries to defend the fashion industry from critics saying it hires underweight mannequins. The debate has been stronger since the last days of 2006 when the 21-year-old model Ana Carolina Reston died from anorexia.

Gisele said that as a child her peers made fun of her for being skinny calling her Olive Oil, the character from the Popeye cartoon, but the fashion industry made her feel accepted. She started modeling when she was 14 and left home for a three-month job in Japan. "You leave home, the protection of your parents, but you still know you have their support," said the Victoria’s Secret angel and added "I never felt lonely because I always relied on my family."
This week Bundchen was visiting her home country for Fashion Rio, an event that has banned models under 16 and now also requires proof of their good health. In September, Spain banned too-skinny models from fashion shows in Madrid.

As a mother I definitely agree with Gisele. It is your responsibility as a parent to make sure you child is healthy and living a healthy life. If they are not, it is your responsibility to take action. The problem with all of this skinny model bullshit is that the $$$Benjamin's$$$$ get in the way. Parents see that their 20 year old daughter is raking in two million a year and the only thing they can see is how that money could help them, what they don't see is that their 20 year old daughter is 6'2" girl weighs 115, and has a raging coke habit. Don't get me wrong, the modeling industry doesn't give a fuck about anorexia. If a model gets to sick (or worse) to work there is always going to be another young girl to replace her. Good for Spain for doing something about such a devastating issue.
