Britney Spears to Record Duet with Marilyn Monroe

Britney Spears is set to sing a duet with the late Marilyn Monroe.

The troubled star plans to boost her ailing career by performing with the movie icon - who died more than four decades ago - on a previously unreleased Marilyn song called 'Down Boy'.

Lance Bass, 28, a former member of Britney's ex-lover Justin Timberlake's band *NSYNC, has reportedly secured the rights to the song and thinks it would be perfect for Britney.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Lance wants Britney to sing with Marilyn on the track, like Natalie Cole did on 'Unforgettable' with her dad Nat King Cole."

Plans are already in place for the 'Toxic' singer to don a platinum Marilyn-esque wig and dress like the glamour icon, when they shoot the video.

Screen and music goddess Marilyn died of an overdose aged 36 in 1962. Despite being one of the most successful women of her generation, the star was believed to have battled numerous personal demons.

Britney Spears made a triumphant comeback last night, playing her first gig in three years.

The pop princess took to the stage at the House of Blues in San Diego for just 16 minutes but after she had belted out five of her classic tunes, fans were left shouting for more.

Spears’ return to the stage marks a major turnaround for the star, whose professional hiatus was marked by a very public meltdown.

Just 10 weeks ago, Spears shaved her head and allegedly attacked a paparazzi vehicle with an umbrella.

She then checked into Promises rehab clinic in LA for a month of treatment.

Since leaving the facility, Spears has focused on returning to her former glory, taking regular dance classes and transforming her body to its current toned form.

As word of her secret gig spread, eager fans snapped up all of the tickets, which were changing hands for up to £100 each - that’s £6.25 a minute!

Queues started forming around the block from early afternoon as Spears made her way from Los Angeles in a new tour bus.

The mother of two, 25, took to the stage at 10pm in a brunette wig, sparkling bustier, fur coat, white skirt and boots.

She kicked off the set with Hit Me Baby One More Time, followed by I’m A Slave For You, Breathe On Me, Do Something and Toxic.

One fan said: “She was absolutely fantastic. You would never know she had been away.”

Spears seemed to have put her troubles behind her as she beamed at the crowd and said: “Thanks everyone for coming.”

In another brave move, the star created her own comeback dance routines after reportedly having a bust-up with her choreographer Brian Friedman - one of the judges on ITV reality show Grease Is The Word.

And judging from the crowd’s reaction last night, she has pulled it out of the bag.

My Muse Tori Amos Speaks about Miss Britney Spears

When someone as respected and beloved as Tori Amos comes to your defense, while you are attempting to reclaim yourself against a tsunami of criticism, then that’s something to be happy about. So is the case for the recently rehabbed pop sensation Britney Spears. Tori recently spoke up about Britney’s troubles and points to Britney’s label as being a part of the problem:

“Whether they’re selling perfume or a song, people have decided they’re a brand. Hollywood did a good job of creating icons in the 30s and 40s, they understood a story. Now, give ‘em a haircut and some clothes and they think they can pull off Aphrodite. Then you have situations like Britney shaving her head. I don’t think her sweet, saccharine image was close to who she really was, and she rebelled.”

Obviously, Britney’s image isn’t the only element in her fall from grace; Britney’s crumbling marriage, dealing with parenthood and substance abuse issues were a bigger part of the problem. But maybe, Britney’s has been trying to tell us something about herself all these years.
From her public kiss with fellow pop-rebel Madonna, to her shredding her pop-tart image for songs like “Toxic” and “I’m A Slave For U,” it’s clear that Britney’s much “darker” than her peers, and quite possibly, has felt trapped in a persona that didn’t closely match who she really was.
Tori Amos’ observations, though simplistic, may in truth be really insightful. More importantly, her experiences make her a credible witness to testify on Britney’s “troubled” behalf. Tori Amos has had her share of hard times too.

Despite their disparate musical stylings, Tori and Britney have a couple things in common and if Tori’s right, both performers began their careers as something different than who they were inside.
Amos began her career in an ill-conceived band in the mid-80’s called “Y Tori Can’t Read.” She recorded one album and was tossed aside for being silly and derivitive of the whole 80’s synth sound - sort of like if Kate Bush sang for Duran Duran. This initial failure was likely her saving grace, as Tori was forced to find her own voice and sound. Which she did with great gusto, paving the way for many of the alternative female singer-songwriters who would come after her (Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette to name a few.)
Tori had great success in the early 90’s from her first solo album Little Earthquakes, the single “Silent All These Years” and later with “Cornflake Girl” and “Crucify” sealed her status as cult icon. Despite writing quirky, off-kilter songs — on a piano no less — Tori has a rabidly loyal fanbase, has recorded over 10 albums, sold over 15 million records and her new and eagerly anticipated record, American Doll Posse is set to be released on May 1.
Tori, like Britney, knows personal heartache. During her early years in LA, Tori was raped by an acquaintence and wrote about her experience in her song “My And A Gun.” She’s done benefits for RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) a charity designed to help those who are struggling with sexual assault and abuse and has openly spoken out about her abuse in an effort to raise awareness.
Tori, having had her career sidetracked due to an ill-conceived image and having suffered personal trauma, gives her unique perspective to see through the b.s. in Britney’s life and maybe even offer a light at the end of the tunnel for Spears. If Britney can stay focused, and discover who she really is inside, maybe she can reach even greater success with a whole new image - one she can finally be true to.
It might be a stretch to imagine Britney becoming an indie icon like the outrageously talented Tori Amos - but stranger things have happened to lesser people.

Britney Spears Released from Rehab

Britney Spears has finished her nearly one-month stint in rehab and has left the facility. Spears "has been released by the Promises Malibu Treatment Center after successfully completing their program," her manager, Larry Rudolph, said in a statement late Tuesday night. A friend says the 25-year-old pop star "is doing fine." She voluntarily checked into Promises on Feb. 20 after a weekend of hard partying in which she shaved her head. She briefly left the program the next day – only to return when estranged husband Kevin Federline threatened a custody battle over their two sons. Since then, Spears has attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, though her one-month stay was shorter than most. A typical stint at Promises is about 45 days. Federline has visted her in rehab several times with their sons, most recently last weekend, and has been described as supportive of her recovery. Currently, Spears has custody of the boys with visitation for Federline. While she was in rehab, Federline took care of the children with help from his mother and Spears's mother. Others rooting for Spears's recovery include Brooke Shields, who told Access Hollywood, amid speculation that Spears may be suffering from postpartum depression, that she'd be available to talk to the singer anytime. And music producer Timbaland, who has crafted hits for Spears's ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, told Entertainment Weekly that he'd like to work with Spears once she's better.

Britney Spears Plays Tennis at Promises

Britney hit the courts today for a little exercise at Promises and she found a pretty HOT opponent! Our girl is lookin' good and she finally seems happy and back to her old self. Britney played around on the court in the beautiful Malibu mountains, laughing, joking, and dancing around. The two played tennis for all of eight minutes! We don't know who her new friend is, though we believe he's a patient at the center, but we do know that the two of them looked like they were having a great time together and Britney appeared very comfortable around him and her spirit seemed revived. I hope this is the beginning of more good things to come for Britney!

When Britney Spears got her mail at Promises rehab center in Malibu recently, she was stunned to see a letter from her first love, Justin Timberlake.

As she began reading it, “tears started rolling down her face,” says an insider close to both of them. “She could barely catch her breath to read the words. It was one of the most moving letters she had ever received.”
